Simple, elegant, personal. One of my lovely couples from last year, Inez and Ismail, described their wedding day as “a fabulous and chilled out day… Spent just as we wanted!” And I couldn’t agree more! So I wanted to share a few highlights with you all from this truly gorgeous monochrome alternative micro wedding.
All wedding days can be absolutely whatever you want them to be; you can go for a big celebration or keep it small and elope! But for Inez and Ismail, they wanted their London Marylebone wedding ceremony to be super relaxed, and a reflection of who they are. All I can say about that is they definitely achieved it. And I was so pleased to be able to document and photograph this special day.
Monochrome tones were a key theme of the day. The details in Inez’s dried flower bridal bouquet had monochrome throughout… and her black Khaite wedding dress and white Prada shoes. Ismail went for non-traditional attire too, with a black t-shirt instead of a formal dress shirt. He finished his look with with his statement limited edition, Nike Air Jordan 1 Spider-Man “Origin Story” trainers (so cool).
“If we were going to get something for the day it had to be something we loved. It had to be something we could wear on special occasions. For me it was my dress and for Ismail it was the trainers.”
This is the kind of sustainability that I honestly love! When it comes to the wedding industry, something you can use and wear again and again is so special! The clothes will forever have those memories attached. And let’s face it, they both look absolutely stunning!
Our bride, Inez, kept things simple on the morning of the wedding day by doing her own hair and makeup. Also, the couple decided to get ready together; a non-tradition that I love.
“We picked the music on the morning of the ceremony – for the entrance we picked ‘I’ll follow you into the dark’ by Death Cab for Cutie. For the signing of the register we had ‘Dance of the Dream Man’ from Twin Peaks (a favourite show of ours).”
After getting ready, Inez and Ismail headed to Marylebone Town Hall for their simple, elegant and minimal ceremony. They were joined by a few of their close family and friends.
“The ceremony was super quick because we didn’t want any vows or readings. So we ended up cutting a lot of the script off.”
After the wedding ceremony, the bridal party and guests headed outside to have some formal(ish!) photos.
Later, our bride remembered: “The funniest moment was the confetti throw when we were leaving the Marylebone Town Hall! Those photos are some of our favourites and always make us laugh!”
When I asked what her favourite part of the wedding day was, Inez told me:
“The wedding day went by so quickly, but our favourite part was spending time away at the Japanese Garden in Regent’s Park, London. And with our lovely photographer Natalia – such a joy to walk around the quiet garden right after the wedding ceremony. We have so many incredible photos there!“
I asked the couple whether they had any advice for future couples planning their special wedding celebrations. First off, they had a practical word of wisdom regarding the legal side of things – remember to give notice! In the UK, it is a legal requirement to give notice of a wedding at least a month beforehand. Inez said that “giving notice wasn’t something we were aware of and ended up being a bit of a hassle… especially with the pandemic pushing things around.” So she wanted to pass on her top tips to save other future couples the drama!
“Do what makes sense for you – if you want a big party, go for it, if not just do something small! It should really be a celebration of the couple you are, nothing else. Oh, and both get involved in the planning!”
And a blissful note to end on, when I asked Inez what had inspired the wedding theme and planning, she simply said:
“Just all the things we like the most.”
Such solid advice from this bride! Thank you for a truly beautiful day, Inez and Ismail.
