I’d love to introduce you to one of my wedding industry pals, Rebekah Ann. She’s an incredible jeweller based in the south of England, crafting handmade bespoke jewellery for weddings and engagements. You can check out her website here and browse all her amazing collections of handmade rings and jewellery (or find her on Instagram). Rebekah is also a genuinely lovely woman of business and she set up a community space for creative artists in Brighton, the Brighton Jewellery Collective, so feel free to show them some support if you are local! I asked Rebekah to tell us about why bespoke jewellery is the perfect choice for you. Over to you, Rebekah!
Thanks Natalia! Lovely to be able to share some thoughts with you all. I might be a bit biased here, but I believe that handmade jewellery is so special in so many ways… from the personal connection to sustainability, there really is a huge list of reasons why I think everyone should consider working with an artisan jeweller. I’m going to try and share just a few reasons with you today!
Each piece of jewellery is truly one of a kind when you work along with a bespoke jewellery artist. You can discuss ideas with them about design, materials and sourcing, coming up with something that is beautifully true to you… and completely original! When you commission a handmade piece, you also get the opportunity to connect with the artist who created it. This connection gives the jewellery an added level of sentimental value and makes it a truly meaningful and memorable piece. If you ever need a special occasion piece in the future, whether that is ordering wedding bands after your engagement ring, or an anniversary present, or just a cheeky treat for yourself, you can work with the jeweller again! I honestly think that jewellery should be more than just an accessory, it should be a beautiful part of your life story. Creating jewellery in this meaningful way makes it so much more possible.
Bespoke jewellery is also waaaay more eco conscious. We all know that the mining industry is not famous for its care of people; precious stone sourcing is so important to get right in this social climate. So, when you choose handmade sustainable jewellery, you are making an environmentally conscious choice. These pieces are often created using practices that put the health of our planet first, and the well-being of the people involved in the processes. Gold can be recycled endlessly, so if you want to rework a family heirloom, or choose a recycled gold band, that is totally possible when you work with an artisan jeweller. Artisans who create sustainable jewellery also consider other aspects of the production process, from the materials used to the packaging, to minimise their environmental impact and will go above and beyond to try and give back on offset emissions. A handmade piece of jewellery often has way less environmental impact than a mass-produced version.
There really are no rules and ‘shoulds’ when it comes to designing and making your personal wedding jewellery, and I hope you find the perfect ring to suit you. I also hope I’ve shared some of my reasons (just a few!) about why I believe that bespoke jewellery is the way to go for your wedding.
And finally, my personal advice to anyone planning their wedding is to follow your heart. Your day, your way!
